This Tzatziki Sauce Recipe, also known as Greek yogurt sauce, is easy to make, refreshing, and so delicious! This healthy sauce is so versatile that it is the perfect accompaniment to many dishes. Use it as a sauce on your sandwiches, pitas, gyros, tacos, or as a dip.
Easy & Quick Tzatziki Sauce Recipe
I learned how to make this Easy Tzatziki recipe with my ex-boss, who is 100% Greek. She taught me that this is the traditional way that her family makes greek yogurt sauce.
We LOVE this sauce! And I use it on everything.
WHAT IS TZATZIKI SAUCE?
Tzatziki is an intense and creamy sauce made with Greek yogurt, cucumber, and garlic. It has a rich flavor and excellent consistency. Plus, it’s certainly healthier than mayonnaise or ranch dressing.
You can slather it on your sandwiches, tacos, or simply use it as a dip with warm flatbread and your favorite vegetables!
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Hot house cucumber – also known as English cucumber.
- Plain Greek yogurt – I recommend using full-fat Greek yogurt.
- Fresh garlic
- Olive oil
- Dill dry or fresh
- Salt
Step By Step Recipe Photo Tutorial
Please check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact quantities and detailed instructions (scroll down).
- Grate the cucumber – Some people like to squeeze the water out of the cucumber. I don’t do that, and I don’t find it necessary. However, you can do it if you prefer. To do so, grate the cucumber, place it in a clean kitchen cloth or a heavy napkin and then squeeze all the liquid out.
- Mix together in a bowl the Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil, dill and salt in a bowl until well combined.
- Cover and chill before serving.
Storing & Freezing Instructions
STORE the Tzatziki sauce well covered in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Easy Tzatziki Sauce [Greek Yogurt Sauce]
Ingredients
- 17.6 oz (500 g) Plain Greek ( I use whole milk yogurt)
- 1 Hot House (English) cucumber
- 2 – 3 garlic gloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
- 1 tablespoon dill (dry or fresh)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Grate the cucumber. NOTE: Some people like to squeeze the water out of the cucumber. I don't do that, and I don't find it necessary. However, you can do it if you prefer. To do so, grate the cucumber, place it in a clean kitchen cloth or a heavy napkin and then squeeze all the liquid out.
- Mix the Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil, dill, and salt in a bowl until well combined. Taste and adjust to your liking; you can add more salt or garlic, if necessary.
- Cover and chill for a couple of hours before serving.
- I recommend using a Microplane zester to grate the garlic.
- For an extra thick sauce, I like to use whole milk Greek yogurt but can also use fat-free or low-fat if you prefer.
- Refrigerate the sauce at least 2 hours before serving.
- Adjust the quality of garlic according to your liking. I generally add two garlic cloves, which adds a nice garlicky flavor without being overwhelming.
